I agree with the argument that parents should get cosmetic surgery for their kids if it'll make them look more attractive. Since most people judge others on their first impression, it will help kids to make friends or find a job more easily when they are good-looking. And most importantly, an appropriate surgery can raise kids' self-esteem and self-confidence.
The first reason that supports cosmetic surgery is that good-looking people always can take advantage of their appearance. A handsome guy tends to have more chances to have a girlfriend than an ugly geek. On the other hand, I find most job interviewers favor beautiful girls, it is easy for them to make a decision when both applicants have the same skills. I think it is human nature to love beautiful things, even if the beautiful thing is an artificial one.
Although I've been told don't judge other people by their appearance. And actually there is a famous fable of "The stag with beautiful antlers". The story says that a stag had beautiful antlers and skinny, spindly and bony legs. The stag loves his antlers but hates his legs. One day the stag was chased by hunters' dogs, his legs carried him away from the danger but his antlers got caught in the leafy tree…The moral of the story is "What is truly valuable is often unappreciated", the beautiful antlers are less useful than legs when the stag is in danger. Well, that might be true, but stags with beautiful antlers always have more chances to woo the female does and have better opportunities to pass on his genes. Appearances do matter.
The second reason is that appropriate surgery can raise kids' self-esteem and self-confidence. Cosmetic surgery is now booming throughout Asia like never before. In Taiwan, a million procedures were performed last year. In Korea, many parents even take out a loan to pay for their children's cosmetic surgery as a college graduation gift. If the teenager is the one who is fully committed to making the change and he/ she has parental support, a successful cosmetic surgery can bring him/ her lots of benefits.
To sum up, with the dramatic improvements in plastic surgery, people find it safer and easier to get an operation. It is a good thing for parents to support their kids to become better looking and a have better life.
